How to Make an iCloud Drive Desktop Shortcut (Alias)


If you use iCloud Drive frequently, you might wish to create a desktop alias (a shortcut to the original item) on your Mac desktop. This could help you save time.

This way, you can simply access your iCloud Drive files from your Mac Desktop, allowing you to browse and manage the contents of your iCloud Drive.

You may access all of your documents using iCloud Drive from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Windows PC, and In macOS, the iCloud Drive folder does not appear on the desktop by default.

This article will show you how to add an iCloud Drive folder alias to your Mac’s Desktop. Follow the steps below to get started:

  1. Turn on iCloud Drive if you haven’t already done so:
    1. Open System Preferences on your Mac and select Apple ID. In the left-hand menu, go to iCloud and tick the box next to iCloud Drive.
    2. Make sure the “Desktop & Documents Folders” option is chosen by clicking the Options icon next to iCloud Drive. After that, click Done.

2. Open Finder now. We’ll need to go to the Library folder and open it. Here’s how to do it:
1. Press and hold the Option key on your keyboard.
2. Go to the top menu and click on the Go menu while holding down the Option key. Choose Library.

3. Look for the “Mobile Documents” folder. This is where you’ll find the iCloud Drive folder. We’ll make an alias for it now:
1. Control-click the “Mobile Documents” folder (or right-click it).
2. Choose “Make Alias” from the drop-down menu.
3. You might wish to rename this to “iCloud Drive Alias” or “iCloud Drive Shortcut,” for example.
4. You’re done once you’ve moved this new folder to your Desktop.
