Have trouble sending or receiving WhatsApp messages? Or having trouble downloading an image that a friend sent you? WhatsApp on iPhone is stuck on “Connecting…” How To Fix it is a software issue, check out this post linked below.
Most likely, you’re experiencing connectivity issues on your iPhone or with the WhatsApp app.
It’s most likely internet connectivity troubles on your iPhone if you see a Connecting… status at the top of the WhatsApp Chats screen. Follow the steps outlined below to remedy the issue:
Restart your iPhone
You and the person with whom you’re having this issue should both restart your iPhones. Either a simple restart or a force reset of your iPhone will suffice. Follow these procedures to reset your iPhone.
- For iPhone X and higher models: Press and hold either of the volume buttons, as well as the Side button, until the power slider displays. To turn off your iPhone, drag the slider. Wait a few seconds after the device has turned off, then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo displays on the screen.
- For iPhone SE, 8 and lower models: Press and hold the home button as well as the lock/sleep-wake button on iPhone SE, 8 and lower versions (on the side for some models and on the top for others). The power slider will be visible. Drag the slider and release the buttons. Then, to turn the device back on, press and hold the lock button.
After the iPhone restarts, enter your passcode and check your iMessage to see if the problem has been resolved.
Enable Background App Refresh for WhatsApp
Background App Refresh is a fantastic feature that allows apps to refresh their content in the background so that you don’t have to wait for it to load every time you open them.
Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh on your iPhone to ensure WhatsApp may refresh and connect in the background.
Here you’ll find a list of all the apps that use background app refresh. To see if Background App Refresh is enabled for WhatsApp, scroll to the bottom of the list. Turn on the toggle switch adjacent to it if necessary.
Fix Network Connections
The fact that WhatsApp is stuck on ‘Connecting…’ indicates that the program is unable to connect to the internet. This could indicate either a problem on WhatsApp’s end (on their servers) or a problem with your internet connection.
Check the status of WhatsApp’s servers. Go to the Down Detector website to see if you’re the only one having trouble connecting to WhatsApp or if there are a slew of other people having the same problem. If there are a large number of users, the issue is at WhatsApp’s end, and there is nothing you can do about it.
Restart your wireless router. Any temporary obstacles between your wireless devices linked to your network are generally resolved by rebooting your WiFi router. In some circumstances, turning the WiFi router on and off can rescue the day.
Turn on or off Airplane Mode. If WhatsApp is stuck on Connecting… while using cellular data, try setting Airplane Mode On/Off to refresh the cellular connection.
Turn on/off cellular data and WiFi. Toggle WiFi and Cellular Data On/Off in your iPhone’s control center.
Finally, if you’re using an iOS beta, this could be the source of the problem, as beta releases are known to experience internet connectivity troubles on iPhone.
